Achieving high quality education and ensuring the acquisition of British values in a diverse learning environment

Why this is leading practice

The curriculum is creatively planned and reflects the multicultural diversity and uniqueness of the setting. The carefully planned and diverse curriculum is organised to support all children. Actively involved parents from all nationalities work with the school to support children in class or to provide workshops which reflect the school’s diversity. School development plans are dedicated to supporting all children and the curriculum provides rich opportunities for high quality teaching. The Foundation Stage team share the same ethos and continuously reflect on their practice. The children feel safe and progress well in a challenging and complex environment.

Impact to date

  • Leadership and Management graded as Outstanding by Ofsted (2014)
  • progress data for all children indicates that 100% are making expected progress or above
  • progress data is used effectively to identify and support individual learning plans
  • 'Foundation pupils get off to a flying start'. Ofsted 2014
  • External moderation and conference presentations support staff development.

Rationale / Start Point

Parents and visitors praise the high quality provision. In February 2014 the school was rated as outstanding by Ofsted, and it has continued to improve, developing strong links with other nationalities. The children in Foundation Stage 2 develop French to a high standard by working closely with our French teacher. Staff from the different nationalities work together to create inter-school themes and workshops. The school works to promote the British community within an isolated setting, and encourages the unique child to develop a rich multi-cultural experience.

Key Strategies

  • Tasks planned for pupils reflect their individual needs (ie Home Start, speech and language)
  • Pupil progress on .......tasks is formally monitored
  • Parents are engaged in the task planning and monitoring
  • Liason and joint planning with whole school themes such as writing and speech and language
  • Liaison with other international schools sharing practice and developing opportunities for example safety through fireworks
  • Rich opportunities available through international context are exploited to develop British values, respect and creativity, initiative and reliability.

Sustainability and Further Development

  • Plans to move towards video-conferencing to share developing practice
  • More staff to deal with transitional nature of school population
