Why this is leading practice

Collaborative work at all levels within three cluster first schools, Fairfield, Meadows and Sidemoor in Bromsgrove, has provided a framework for self-review and improved practice. The 3 schools work in close partnership to support leadership and subsequently improve the outcomes for children. This has built the capacity for sustained improvement in all 3 school and this has been recognised as a strength by governors and School Improvement Advisors.

Impact to date

Each of the schools has a good local reputation and all are near to capacity

Improved quality of teaching with more outstanding lessons being taught

Improved pupil attainment

All schools are graded ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’

Parental confidence is high in all schools

Pupil confidence is high in all schools

Staff feel more confident and have support colleagues in other schools

Senior Leaders feel more confident with someone to bounce their ideas off

Rationale / Start Point

In the light of the LA's diminishing capacity to support schools, improved collaboration has provided challenge and support for head teachers and teachers at all levels. This was intially set up as a support network partnership between headteachers, and has since been cascaded to include other staff and aspects.

Sustainability and Further Development

There are already plans to further increase the amount of collaborative work taking place

Co-ordinators, class teachers, Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, office staff and governors to meet and share ideas.

Joint Governor training

Plans to sit in as an observer at each other’s Governor meetings to gain a better understanding of each school (and offer constructive advice)

Possibility of taking a further local school under their wings to help out a newly appointed head teacher at a struggling school

The setting up of joint notice boards at each school with a new ‘collaboration’ symbol sharing the success of each other’s school
